KUWAIT, May 13 (KUNA) -- Zakat House launched a fundraising campaign for the release of Kuwaiti prisoners convicted on financial charges at Kuwait TV on Saturday night.
The humanitarian campaign, themed 'khallihom yirammodu maana' (let them spend Ramadan with us), officially started at 10:15 p.m. and lasts until the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, with the aim being to help reunite families and cement interdependence in the society.
The launching ceremony gathered Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Minister of Information Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Dr. Faleh Al-Azab, and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Mohammad Al-Jabri.
"This is the second edition of the humanitarian initiative of Zakat House; it is based on the success of the first one launched last year," said Abdulaziz Al-Batti, director of the public relations dept. of Zakat House.
The campaign, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, targets the release of deeply indebted prisoners after revision of their respective files to make sure of their eligibility to settlement of their debts and thereby early release, he added. (end) amn.fs.gb
