Today in Kuwait's history

 KUWAIT, May 11 (KUNA) --

   1964 ­­ Kuwait approved the charter of the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), issued in late February, and the charter of Arab cultural unification.

   1967 ­­ The Relinquishment Agreement signed between the Kuwaiti government and BP Kuwait Ltd, Gulf Kuwait Company, and Kuwait Oil Company Ltd approved in a decree by law by His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al­Sabah.

   1987 ­­ A blast targeting the office of American airline, TWA, in Kuwait kills one person.

   1992 ­­ The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) was allowed to purchase local bad debts and set a date for their purchase (at the end of 1999) after a decree­into­law was passed by the Amir Sheikh Jaber Al­Ahmad AlSabah.

   1996 ­­ Dr. Mohammad Bijawi, the head of the International Court of Justice, granted an honorary PhD in law by Kuwait University (KU) in appreciation for his achievements.

   1999 ­­ Kuwait Stock Exchange signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation with Jordan's Amman Stock Exchange.

   2004 ­­ Kuwait signed an agreement, at the UN headquarters, stipulating terms and guidelines for the construction of a mega railway network across the Gulf region.

   2005 ­­ The construction of a regional training center for judges and members of the general prosecution in the field of international humanitarian begins after a decree by law was issued by the Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al­Ahmad Al­Sabah. The execution of the project was adopted according to a memorandum of understanding between the Kuwaiti government and the International Committee of the Red Cross signed in Kuwait on October 12, 2004.

   2014 -- The National Assembly approved a number of draft laws connected with the transformation of Kuwait Airways into a shareholding company and providing job security for employees in the private and oil sectors amongst others.

   2014 -- Health Ministry signed a KD 54 million agreement to construct a new infectious diseases hospital. (end)
