IRBIL, April 29 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait funded the opening of a new school in Hassan Sham camp for displaced Iraqis western Irbil governorate, said a Kuwaiti diplomat Saturday.
Kuwait's General Consul in Irbil Dr. Omar Al-Kanderi told KUNA that his country was keen on enabling children of displaced Iraqis to continue their education despite the current circumstance in the country.
The school, which will cater to the needs of some 500 students, is the fourth facility funded by Kuwait in Irbil, said Al-Kanderi who affirmed that the GCC country will continue its mission to help Iraq as instructed by the Kuwaiti leadership and in cooperation with the Iraqis and the authorities in Iraq's Kurdistan.
Kuwait recently opened several schools in Irbil and also helped provide necessities to some 20,000 Iraqi students in the governorate.
The displaced Iraqis are feeling from operations carried by the Iraqi army and allies since late 2016 against the so-called Islamic State (IS) in the city of Mosul. (end) sbr.gta
