Kuwait hands out 135 tons of foodstuff to IDPs in Irbil
IRBIL, April 27 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti Consulate in Irbil, the capital of Iraq's Kurdistan Region, has distributed 135 tons of foodstuff to 4,500 displaced families from Mosul at a western Irbil camp.
Speaking to KUNA, Kuwait's General Consul Omar Al-Kandari said the fresh food aid is part of Kuwait's nonstop relief campaign "Kuwait is By Your Side".
Kuwaiti food supplies were distributed among internally displaced persons who left violence-hit Mosul and settled at camps in Irbil, he added.
He vowed that Kuwait would continue to provide humanitarian aid to Iraqi IDPs at camps upon instructions from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The Kuwaiti relief campaign is primarily aimed at easing out the sufferings and woes of IDPs in Iraq, the Kuwaiti diplomat pointed out.
Since Iraqi forces launched its operation to liberate Mosul from the so-called Islamic State (IS) on October 17, Kuwait has been providing mainly food aid to liberated areas.
Earlier on Wednesday, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) distributed clothes funded by Kuwait to over 5,000 displaced Iraqi families from south of Mosul.
Kuwait has donated more than USD four million for the IOM to support displaced persons from Mosul, scene of current military operations to liberate it from so-called Islamic State (IS). (end) sbr.mt
