EU ready to engage with Turkey

BRUSSELS, April 26 (KUNA) -- The European Commission, the EU's executive body, discussed EU-Turkey ties during its weekly meeting Wednesday and expressed its readiness to engage with Ankara.
Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice-President of the European Commission, told a press conference that the meeting discussed the situation on post-referendum Turkey and how we address this situation.
"We have serious concerns but at the same time there are a number of areas where we must work together. We are ready to engage and discuss with the Turkish authorities but it is up to Turkey to clarify its intentions towards the EU and as regards the accession process," he said.
The EU official added that upcoming meetings with Turkey will be announced in due course.
Meanwhile, the European Parliament is to discuss EU-Turkey relations later today. (end) nk.mt
