S. Arabia aborts plot to blow up Aramco installations

JEDDAH, April 26 (KUNA) -- Saudi authorities have aborted a plot to blow a pier and petroleum distribution station for the national oil company, Aramco, in Jazzan, a spokesman of the Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday.

Saudi border guards manning Al-Asheq center in the sector of Al-Mawsam in Jazan foiled an attempt to blow up the pier and the station after monitoring a boat speeding from an isle in the Yemeni territories toward the Saudi waters, picking up speed to 34 knots as it approached the targets.
The border guards intercepted the incoming boat, managed to stop it after shooting at its engines ahead of the targets by roughly a 1.5 nautical miles.
The boat was unmanned but was heavily rigged with explosives, he said. "It was dealt with at the sea," he said without clarifying whether the explosives were defused or set off.
The official spokesman said that the Yemeni Houthi rebels were behind the futile bid to target Aramco's facilities and vowed to repel any new bid to wage such a terrorist attack on the national installations. (end) nh.rk
