EU ministers discuss counter-terrorism measures

BRUSSELS, March 28 (KUNA) -- EU interior and justice ministers discussed in Brussels Tuesday a regulation on countering money laundering by criminal law.
The overall objective is to further disrupt the sources of revenue used by terrorist organisations, as well as to improve the tracing of terrorists through financial movements, Owen Bonnici, Minister of Justice of Malta, whose country holds the current EU Presidency, told a news conferec after the end of the meeting.
"Combatting financial crime and terrorist financing is a priority for the EU. These legislations will expand the range of tools available to us to help provide greater security for European citizens," he said.
On her part, Vera Jourova, EU Commissioner for Justice, told the joint press conference that "we discussed with the ministers how to best tackle the issue of terrorist foreign fighters returning to the EU.
"I also invited Ministers to continue sharing experience on preventing radicalisation in prisons. Prisons must not become grounds for radicalisation," she added. (end) nk.bs
