Amman Summit, first to use social media to spread message

DEAD SEA, March 26 (KUNA) -- The Arab summit in Amman is the first Arab summit aimed at informing Arab youth about the outcome of the summit using social media, Rima Alaiddin, the Spokeswoman for the summit's preparatory meetings said Sunday.
Alaiddin told reporters that the summit was designed to enable young people, who make up more than 60 percent of the Arab population, access to such information quickly.
In response to a question on the expected high-level participation of Arab leaders despite the "exceptional circumstances" and due to developments in the region, she said Arab leaders were keen to attend the summit in view of the "critical" phase it is going through.
"We expect full presence of all Arab leaders," she said, referring to the necessity of reviving and activating Arab joint action to combat the threats taking place in the region, particularly terrorism, extremism and successive crises that hit the region.
Alaiddin also stressed importance on solving many problems related to development and unemployment and the empowerment of women and young people, pointing out that these issues represent a great importance to Arab leaders.
Regarding Jordan's inclusion of Syrian refugees on the agenda of the summit, Alaiddin said that "we are one of the largest hosting countries for Syrian refugees in terms of size population, and others throughout the history of the population." Historically, the Kingdom has been one of the most hosting countries to refugees since Palestinians displacement in 1948.
The spokeswoman noted that tomorrow, Monday, will be the last day of preparatory meetings before the summit.
Arab foreign ministers will kick off their meeting Monday. (end) mb.tg
