PKK militants kill Turkish soldier in Diyarbakir - agency

ANKARA, March 8 (KUNA) -- A Turkish soldier was killed by Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants in southeastern Diyarbakir province Wednesday.
The incident took place in the province's Lice district, said a military source who told Anadolu News Agency, on condition of anonymity.
Furthermore, six PKK militants were killed Wednesday as part of an ongoing operation in Lice district and in eastern Bingol province's Genc district, Turkish military said in a statement.
It noted that the operation aims to destroy shelters, warehouses and anti-aircraft positions of the group.
Security forces also seized a huge amount of weaponry, ammunition and explosive materials.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.
Since then, more than 1,200 security personnel and civilians were killed. Around 10,000 PKK members were killed as well. (end) rs.ibi
