Turkey dismisses 227 judges, prosecutors linked to failed coup

ANKARA, Feb 20 (KUNA) -- Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors Mehmet Yilmaz announced Monday dismissal of 227 judges and prosecutors for their connection with so-called parallel entity.
He was quoted by Anadolu news agency as saying total number of judges and prosecutors who were dismissed reached 3,886 since the failed coup attempt last July.
Yilmaz however that 200 judges and prosecutors who were dismised earlier would be reinstated.
The Turkish authorities launched a wide-scale arrest campaign since the failed coup. Around 100,000 were arrested while some 44,000 others were fired.
The Turkish government blamed the parallel entity of the US-based Fethullah Gulen for the coup attempt. (end) rs.bs
