By Salem Al-Methen

KUWAIT, Feb 20 (KUNA) -- General Manager of the Public Authority of Industry (PAI) Abdul-Kareem Taqi said Monday the PAI's award for exceptional factories for 2017 is of paramount significance to quality improvement.
Speaking to KUNA on the award, Taqi said the PAI launched the fourth version of the award today in line with proper rules and criteria with a view to promoting competitiveness among factories.
He added that the prize mainly aims at encouraging plants to measure their current performance and compare it with the best world practices, and adopting the continuing development policy.
The prize comes within the framework of fair competition among plants in order to manifest their role in quality development as one of the government's initiatives to revamp the industrial sector in the country, he said.
The PAI has used the help of two high-level experts in the assessment of competing factories with the goal of ensuring fairness and objectivity, Taqi pointed out.
He listed main criteria for competing factories as interaction with society, leadership, strategic planning, focus on market and clients, information systems, human resources, operation management and budget.
Established in 1995, the Public Authority of Industry (PAI) aims to develop, promote and supervise the industrial activity in the country as well as development of the industrial base for achievement of the national economy goals. (end) skm.kaa.mt
