KUWAIT, Feb 18 (KUNA) -- A senior official has likened Kuwait to a "regional media school" due to its rich history in media and artistic activities and accomplishments.
Tareq Eid Al-Merzem, the Information Undersecretary, was speaking on the occasion of launching Al-Gurain channel, due on February 25th, coinciding with the national days.
Al-Merzem indicated that it was high time to launch a new television channel considering mounting competition in the audio broadcast realm.
The new channel is called Al-Gurain, which is Kuwait's old name, because it will transmit programs about the country's culture, heritage and traditions. It will re-broadcast excerpts from Kuwait TV's archive.
Majid Al-Jazzaf, the assistant undersecretary for TV affairs, said TV stations in other GCC countries would supply the new channel, which will be on air 24 hours, with various programs.
Talal Al-Haifi, the channel general supervisor, said the channel service is based on work value, heritage, history and entertainment.
Al-Gurain will transmit via Nilesat (11055) and Arabsat (12523). (end) amn.rk
