Deputy Foreign Minister arrives in Malaysia for OIC meeting

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Suleiman Al-Jarallah arrived here on Wednesday evening leading Kuwait's delegation to the emergency meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The meeting, to open tomorrow upon the request of the Government of Malaysia, is to discuss the situation of the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar (Burma).
The Kuwaiti delegation includes assistant foreign minister Ayham Al-Omer, deputy foreign minister for international organizations Nasser Al-Hayn and Ambassador to Malaysia Saad Al-As'ousi.
The delegation also include Kuwait's Consul General in Jeddah and Permanent Delegate to the OIC Wa'el Al-Anzi, the third secretary of the consulate Abdul-Rahman Al-Shami, and first secretary of the foreign minister's office Hamad Al-Mezyen.
Ambassador Al-As'ousi held a dinner banquet in honor of the delegation.
The OIC meeting will focus on the steps that the OIC and the international community should take to force Myanmar into stopping the atrocities against nearly one million Muslims in Rakhine State and allowing delivery of aid supplies.
The conferees will address the root causes of the violence, and widen the scope of dialogue among the groups to ensure the return of the displaced Rohingya population to their homes in safety and dignity.
The meeting will also discuss the situation of the more than 120,000 displaced and refugee Muslims within Myanmar. (end) aab.gb
