IRBIL, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- Truckloads of Kuwaiti medical aid, weighing 10 tons, arrived in Iraq's northern autonomous region of Kurdistan on Wednesday, earmarked for displaced Iraqis.
Kuwait's Consul General in Irbil Dr. Omar Al-Kandari told KUNA that the aid aims to remedy the dearth of medical equipment in the region, where scores of displaced people are in dire need of medical attention.
Moreover, he thanked all those who helped facilitate the advent of medical aid, including the Iraqi government, adding that this batch of aid precedes more assistance to come.
Meanwhile, speaking to KUNA, Kurdistan's regional government's Interior Minister Karim Sinjari said that the "people of Kurdistan would like to thank Kuwait for delivering timely and adequate aid to displaced people." He also lamented dire economic conditions in the region, urging "benevolent and friendly" nations to help out displaced people and refugees in Kurdistan.
Similarly, Governor of Irbil Nawzad Hadi expressed gratitude for Kuwait's humanitarian deeds, noting that the region's hospitals have been overflowing with more than 8,000 wounded patients.
He also underscored the "crucial aid at this difficult juncture." (end) sbr.nam
