Yemen gov't backs UN peacemaking effort - FM

RIYADH, Jan 5 (KUNA) -- Yemeni Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdul-Malik al-Mikhlafi reaffirmed the support of the Yemeni legitimate government to the efforts of the UN Envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh to resume the intra-Yemeni peace talks.
The legitimate government, led by President Abdu Rabbo Mansur Hadi, appreciates the new initiative recently raised by Ould Cheikh to prepare the ground for a new round of talks, the Saudi SPA quoted him as saying during his meeting here on Thursday with Turkish ambassador to Yemen.
The initiative is based on the three main points of reference - the GCC initiative for Yemen, the outcome of the previous rounds of the national dialogue and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Al-Mikhlafi thanked Turkey for its support to the Yemeni government in various fields, renewing his government solidarity with Turkey in the face of terrorism.
Earlier today, the Yemeni foreign minister met with his Norwegian counterpart Borg Brende, now on a visit to Riyadh, where he reaffirmed the zeal of his government in the preparations for the peace talks. (end) od.gb
