ISTANBUL, Oct 24 (KUNA) -- A Turkish court on Monday sentenced 21 policemen for life in prison because of their involvement in last July 15 failed coup attempt against president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the NTV news channel reported.
NTV said this was the first trial against person who allegedly took part in the failed coup attempt.
It explained that more than 35,000 people were arrested nationwide, while a total of 82,000 people were questioned.
Ankara is accusing US-based Fethulah Gulen of masterminding the coup attempt, in which 270 people were killed and thousands injured. Gulen denies the accusation. (end)
