KUWAIT, Oct 23 (KUNA) -- Patronized by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Mentor Arabia held, late on Saturday, a banquet attended by Queen Silvia of Sweden, also chairperson of Mentor Foundation International.
His Highness the Amir was represented at the formal dinner by Deputy Amiri Diwan Affairs Minister Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah. In her address to the attendees, Queen Silvia affirmed that the international foundation seeks to tackle all dangers facing the youth, such as drugs.
Chairman of Mentor Arabia Prince Turki Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud expressed gratitude to the State of Kuwait for its leading role in embracing humanitarian causes particularly those concerning the children and youth.
For his part, Deputy Chairman of Mentor Arabia Faisal Al-Mutawaa thanked His Highness the Amir for gracing the foundation.
A documentary about Mentor Arabia was displayed to the attendees.
Queen Silvia arrived in Kuwait on Friday to attend a ceremony honoring trainers and educators of the global program, peer education, to protect youth against drugs, organized by Ghiras in cooperation with Mentor Arabia.
Mentor Arabia is a regional non-governmental foundation which advocates drug prevention among Arab children and youth. It is an affiliate of Mentor International, operating under the mission of "A world where children and young people are empowered to make healthy decisions and avoid drug use." Kuwait has fruitful cooperation with Mentor Arabia, through the Ministries of Education, Information and the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs.
Queen Silvia highly appreciates Kuwait's support to the foundation and lauds the leading national program for drug awareness, known as Ghiras, that has been a major partner in Mentor's efforts and goals.
Queen Silvia established Mentor International in 1994 in collaboration with the World Health Organization, as the leading international federation of not-for-profit organizations working to develop evidence-based youth development programs that focus on preventing drug abuse.(end) rk
