Egypt extends opening of Rafah crossing for another day

GAZA, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- Egypt has extended the opening of Rafah crossing with Gaza Strip for a seventh day, the Palestinian Borders and Crossings Authority stated Saturday.
In a press statement, the authority pointed out that the Egyptian side has officially apprised the authority of the decision to extend the opening of Rafah crossing for another day to allow more of the stranded travelers to cross the borders from both sides.
Last week, Egypt announced opening the crossing for six days ending on Saturday, October 22 after 40 days of closure.
Meanwhile, Israel on Saturday beefed up security measures on Palestinian territories in the West Bank and Gaza.
It also stated that it would shut down crossing borders with Palestinian territories for two days in coincidence with a nationwide religious festival. (end) wab.ibi
