DOHA, Oct 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Anfal Bo Hamad clinched third place Thursday in drawing and collages art category contest, which is part of the ongoing first GCC handicrafts forum for disabled women, kicked off on Wednesday.
Anfal's mother, Najat Al-Reyahi, expressed to KUNA her pride and joy in her daughter's valuable achievement, pointing out GCC officials' appreciation and care in the disabilities fields, and their deep attention to the handicapped and special need ones.
Al-Reyahi dedicated her daughter's achievement to the Kuwaiti leadership, government, and people, praising her country's significant care for the disabled ones through facilitating all potentials to provide them with the most appropriate environment to discover and launch their skills and talents.
This prize is a new addition to Anfal's several achievements she attained on local, regional, and international levels, Al-Reyahi said, pointing out her daughter's superiority in memorizing the Holy Quran, in addition to other GCC excellence contests.
A number of ministries, state authorities, civil community bodies, and private sectors in Gulf countries are currently taking part in the forum.
The event aims at raising public awareness on the rights of handicapped women, including the UN's Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, bolstering communication, backing Gulf women's handicraft skills, highlighting the positive aspects of disabled women, and empowering disabled women to fully integrate in their society.
It is organized by the Rehabilitation International (RI), Regional Social Responsibility Network, and Maximize for Training and Consulting, and includes a number of workshops that highlight disabled women's capabilities, in addition to showcasing a number of experiences by the participants.
