US discussing non-diplomatic options in Syria - official

WASHINGTON, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- The US may consider "other options that don't revolve around the act of diplomacy" to solve the crisis in Syria, a US official said.
"We still believe that the best solution is political, that the best approach is diplomatic, not military," said State Department Spokesperson John Kirby to reporters.
"But obviously, it would be irresponsible and prudent for this government not to continue to have rational, reasoned, deliberate, measured discussions about what our other options are." Earlier, Secretary of State John Kerry told his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov that if Russia does not begin to oblige by its ceasefire agreement, the US will end talks with the country regarding Syria.
Kirby warned that Kerry's "patience is not limitless" and that it is "wearing extraordinarily thin." However, out of all the solutions' options "we continue to believe that none of them are better than trying to get a diplomatic solution to this," Kirby asserted. (end) ak.hb
