AMMAN, Sept 6 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Ambassador to Jordan Dr. Hamad Al-Duaij handed over Tuesday financial assistance presented from the Zakat (alms) House to Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Open University, to fund establishment of a rehabilitation center for people with special needs.
Al-Duaij handed over some USD 95,000 to the President of the University Dr. Yunus Amro and director of its branch in Nablus, Dr. Yusuf Awwad.
In a statement to KUNA, Al-Duaij said Kuwait's government and public charities were keen on supporting the Palestinian people in all domains, including education and social care.
"The Palestinian cause has always been the number one issue for Kuwait and the Arabs," said Al-Duaij, and supporting the Palestinian people "is a duty." Amro, in remarks to KUNA, said Al-Quds Open University has 20 education centers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, serving around 60,000 students.
The university, he added, was allocating seats for sons of resistance people and those released from Israeli jails, as well as people with special needs.
The university, said Amro, was also active in scientific research in agriculture, training and continuous education.
The Palestinian university officials commended the Zakat House support, saying it would provide much-needed care for the disabled children. (end) mjb.bs
