US welcomes "calm" between Turkey, counter-IS forces in Syria

WASHINGTON, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- The US welcomed "the overnight calm" between the Turkish military and "other counter-IS forces in Syria," according to White House spokesperson Josh Earnest, referring to the Kurdish fighters of the Popular Protection Units (YPG).
"The United States continues to encourage these moves as a way to prevent further hostilities and loss of life between all counter-IS forces operating in the area," Earnest told reporters on Tuesday.
He reiterated that both sides, allies of the US, need to prioritize and focus on their anti IS efforts. (end) ak.hb
