Police checkpoint in SE Turkey attacked

ISTANBUL, Aug 26 (KUNA) -- A car-bomb attack hit a checkpoint close to riot police unit in Cizre leaving a number of people wounded, according to Anadolu Agency.
The agency quoted Turkish security sources as expressing belief that the PKK detonated a bomb-laden car at a police checkpoint in the southeastern Turkish province of Sirnak Friday morning.
The sources added that the terror attack targeted the checkpoint some 50 meters away from a riot police unit headquarters in Sirnak's town of Cizre.
Ambulances were sent to the scene and several wounded were rushed to a nearby hospital.
The blast caused extensive damage to the police HQ building.(end).
