JEDDAH, Aug 25 (KUNA) -- Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir and visiting US State Secretary John Kerry said that it was agreed with the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmd on resuming talks on the Yemeni crisis, to conclude a comprehensive solution in the country.
Al-Jubeir and Kerry urged in a press conference in Jeddah Thursday all the concerned parties to cooperate for securing success for the envoy's mission.
The conference followed the 140th session of the GCC Ministerial Council, and a separate meeting for the GCC Foreign Ministers with Kerry and UK's Secretary of State for Middle East and Africa Tobias Ellwood.
Today's meetings in Jeddah have discussed regional developments, mainly ideas for pushing a head the peace efforts in Yemen, to conclude a diplomatic solution based on the three major references; the GCC Initiative and its Implementing Mechanism, the outcome of the Yemeni National Dialogue, and the UN Security Council Resolution 2216, Al-Jubeir told said.
Participants uttered rejection to the unilateral steps taken by the Ansarullah movement and the General People's Congress (GPC), which both formed a presidential council and seized reserves in the Central Bank of Yemen, the Saudi chief diplomat said.
Al-Jubeir said that today's gatherings had discussed deterioration of the financial institutions and the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
He emphasized that the Saudi-led coalition is abiding by the international law in Yemen, and does its best to avoid targeting civilians.
In addition, Al-Jubeir stressed the necessity of demanding Houthis to lift the siege imposed on Yemeni cities, to open access for humanitarian aid, urging all the concerned parties to respond to the efforts by the UN envoy for a peaceful solution to the crisis.
Al-Jubeir reaffirmed that the Saudi-led coalition intervened in Yemen upon request by the Yemeni legitimate government, and also to protect the country's borders, after an extremist militia, similar to Lebanon's Hezbollah, seized power there threatening security and stability in the Kingdom and the entire region. He said that the Ansarullah seized money from the Central Bank of Yemen and launched missiles into Saudi Arabia, noting that financial experts are now working on effective mechanisms to remedy the financial situation in Yemen Saudi Arabia is seeking "secure and prosperous" Yemen, Al-Jubeir said, noting that the Kingdom is the biggest donor to the country since the 1970s, and is hosting a large community of Yemenis.
According to Al-Jubeir, the coalition has been backing the legitimate government and liberated vast areas of Yemen, lessening the threat to the Kingdom's borders.
Though Ansarullah form about 10 percent in the Saada Governorate, they seek to have the upper hand there, he said. (more) nh.msa
