Arab League concerned over escalating violence in Syria

CAIRO, Aug 7 (KUNA) -- Arab League's Secretary-General Ahmad Abul Gheit has voiced his concern over the recent escalation of violence in Syria.
Abul Gheit condemns the besieging of innocent civilians and attacking vital public facilities in the country, particularly medical ones, League's spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said in a press statement Sunday, quoting the Arab League chief.
He has also voiced his concern over the possible collapse of the cessation of hostilities agreement, and recent monitoring reports on attempts to evacuate all Aleppo city's residents via what were called "safe exit passageways," Afifi added.
The international humanitarian law requires delivering urgent aid to the residents inside besieged or damaged areas; not evacuating the residents from those areas, he noted.
Meanwhile, Abul Gheit welcomed the US-Russian efforts to end the violence in Syria and resume negotiations between warring Syrian parties. (end) mfm.rg.ma
