UN envoy, Yemeni gov't representatives hold meeting in Kuwait

KUWAIT, July 30 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni peace talks continued Saturday with UN envoy for the Yemeni crisis Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed meeting with representatives from the Yemeni government.
This evening, The UN envoy is expected to meet with Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and a number of diplomats.
The formation of a political council by representatives of the opposition parties, the Ansarullah and the General Peoples' Congress last Thursday, is expected to cast its shadow over today's discussions.
A spokesman for the UN envoy said that the continuation of the talks were important to achieve peace in Yemen. The spokesman refuted that the talks have ended.
The decision to form a political council was heavily criticized by the UN which deemed the step as a violation of resolution 2216. The Yemeni government described the act as a new "coup" against its legitimacy. (end) om.gta
