Turkey sees its biggest drop of tourists by 40.8 pct

ANKARA, July 28 (KUNA) -- The number of foreign visitors arriving in Turkey in June fell by 40.86 percent, compared to the same month last year, the biggest drop for the past 22 years.
The number of tourists amounted to 2.4 million in June, according to figures published by the Turkish ministry of tourism on Thursday.
Figures recorded a whopping 87 percent decline in visiting Russians during the past six months, as Ankara-Moscow relations have been experiencing some tension after the Turkish fighter aircrafts shot down a Russian war plane back in November 2015.
Turkey's tourism sector has been hard-hit by terrorism concerns, political instability in the country as well as global headwinds. This month's failed coup attempt could add to the damage. (end) rs.nfm
