Reports accuse the US-led coalition of killing dozens of civilians in the airstrike conducted on July 20 amid efforts to defeat IS group.
The probe's "credibility assessment is complete, and the result was that the information available was credible enough to warrant formal investigation, which we have initiated," the US-led coalition spokesman Army Col. Christopher Garver told a briefing.
Meanwhile, he said that an investigation into another alleged strike in the village of Al-Nawaja, which is east of Manbij, on July 23, is still being assessed.
Garver went on to reveal that the group has lost nearly half the territory it once controlled. (end)
