Major knowledge economy event slated for Feb - SCPD chief

KUWAIT, July 27 (KUNA) -- A major conference slated for February 2017 reaffirms the government's eagerness to support knowledge economy in Kuwait, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development (SCPD) Khaled Mahdi has said.
The event, the national conference for transforming knowledge through small and medium enterprises (SMEs), will be patronized by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Mahdi told a press conference.
The fair is envisaged as a practical translation of the "Functions of a Contemporary State from a Knowledge Economy Perspective," conference held last February, also patronized by His Highness the Amir.
It manifests keenness by the state on promoting institutional and social awareness, as well as involving the private sector in financing and managing activities and projects based on knowledge, Mahdi said.
He noted that the fair springs from the goals of the national plans that seek to empower the private sector to lead development efforts through partnership with the public sector.
For his part, Advisor at the Amiri Diwan Yusuf Al-Ibrahim said that the Diwan's support to such projects is based on directives by His Highness the Amir to back youth initiatives and enterprises.
He added that knowledge economy will enable the Kuwaiti economy to swiftly move to advanced stages. (end) aam.fnk.msa.msa
