KUWAIT, July 8 (KUNA) -- A year has passed since the former Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal had passed away with many in the Arab and Muslim worlds considering him as one of the most prominent political figures in recent history.
Kuwaitis remember late Prince Saud Al-Faisal, who was born in 1940, for his courageous efforts which led to the liberation of Kuwait from the Iraqi aggression in 1991.
Alongside the Kuwaiti leadership, which was led on the foreign affairs level by current Amir His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Prince Saud Al-Faisal rallied the international community for the cause of liberating Kuwait.
On the Arab level, Prince Saud Al-Faisal also played a pivotal role in shaping Arab foreign policy since he took office in 1975.
From the struggle to promote the Palestinian cause, the tensions caused by the Egyptian-Israeli peace accord as well as the Iraqi-Iranian war, the late Saudi Foreign Minister had a lot to handle.
Also during his tenure, Prince Saud Al-Faisal witnessed the proclamation of the Arab peace Mideast initiative in 2002 which stated that Israelis and the Palestinians could have peace on the promise of withdrawal from all occupied lands. He helped revitalize the initiative in 2007.
After a long illustrious career, Prince Saud Al-Faisal stepped down from his position of Foreign Minister in 2015 due to health related issues. (end) aas.gta
