NEW DELHI, June 30 (KUNA) -- World Bank President Jim Yong Kim held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on a range of issues including economy, renewable energy and nutrition.
Prime Minister's Office said in a statement that Modi held talks with Kim, who arrived in New Delhi on a two-day visit, progress made by various initiatives that the World Bank is funding including the projects such as Smart Cities, Ganga Rejuvenation, Skill Development, Swachh Bharat and Power for All.
Kim said during his talks with the Indian premier that he was "impressed by the progress made towards the ambitious targets in these programmes." He also appreciated the Indian government for the "rapid progress in improving the ease of doing business, especially in the area of logistics."
Modi drew attention of the visiting World Bank president to the importance of adequate climate change financing for Indian and other countries which are following environmentally sustainable development path.
Kim is also scheduled to meet Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitly to take up other important issues. India, which received USD 4.8 billion in 2015-16 from the World Bank hopes that the global lender will increase funding for its various projects in the future. (end)
