BRUSSELS, June 24 (KUNA) -- The 27 EU Heads of State or Government will meet next Wednesday to discuss the political and practical implications of 'Brexit,' President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, said in his invitation letter to the EU leaders Friday.
"First of all, we will discuss the so called 'divorce process' as described in Art. 50 of the Treaty. And secondly, we will start a discussion on the future of the European Union with 27 Member States," he noted.
He added that due to the negative outcome of the British referendum the formal EU summit on Tuesday and Wednesday will mostly need to devote to a discussion on its political consequences.
"It is my intention to ensure that we have sufficient space to debate both with Prime Minister (David) Cameron, and then separately with the 27 Heads of State or Government," said Tusk.
The summit will also discuss the migration crisis and enhancing EU-NATO security cooperation.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will present his views to the EU leaders on Tuesday on EU/NATO cooperation.
British voters have favored to leave the EU in a referendum where 52 percent of them voted for quitting the European bloc against 48 percent who wanted to remain. (end) nk.bs
