Bahraini court sends 11 people to jail for terrorism-related charges

MANAMA, May 31 (KUNA) -- A Bahraini court issued prison sentences against 11 people ranging from three years to life in addition to stripping them of their nationalities on terrorism-related charges.
The court condemned to life in prison seven of the defendants, 15 years for three of them and three years on another, the public prosecution said in a statement, cited by the official BNA news agency.
The 11 convicts were accused of establishing a terrorist group, possessing explosives to use them for terrorist acts, and training to use weapons, it said.
It added that two of the defendants attempted to smuggle explosives to Saudi Arabia last year, and wanted to recruit Bahraini people and send them to Iraq and Iran, as well as train them on how to make explosives.
The defedants, it said, received military training in Iran and Iraq.
On the other hand, the supreme court of appeals condemned three persons to death, and sent seven others to life in prison while stripping eight of them from their Bahraini nationalities for killing a UAE officer and two Bahraini policemen. (end) mge.bs
