IRBIL, May 25 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) has delivered humanitarian aid to some 750 internally displaced families in northern Irbil, part of a relief campaign encompassing the entire region of Kurdistan.
In comments to KUNA on Wednesday, Kuwait's Consul General in Irbil Omar Al-Kandari noted that KRCS has collaborated with the General Consul in Irbil, to lend a helping hand to those displaced.
Moreover, Al-Kandari pointed out that Wednesday's batch of aid is the fifth installment of the relief campaign earmarked for displaced families in Kurdistan, adding that the aid was delivered to around 1,950 families.
Meanwhile, in a statement to KUNA, Yousef Al-Miraj acknowledged the Kuwaiti foreign ministry's efforts of facilitating the advent of aid to Iraqi families mired in penury, saying the aid consists of food and other necessities.
Kuwait has vigorously participated in humanitarian missions worldwide, having provided USD 200 million worth of relief aid to displaced families in Iraq.
A recent survey conducted by Kurdistan's government showed that the total number of refugees in the region is a staggering one million and 800 people. (end) sbr.nam
