Putin: Russia ready for close anti-terror coop.

MOSCOW, May 24 (KUNA) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed on Tuesday that his country is ready for close international cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
In an address to participants of the 7th international meeting of high representatives in charge of security issues in Grozny, the Chechnya's capital, Putin said the meeting is asked to deal with pressing matters pertinent to terrorism, extremism, organized crimes and illegal migration, and to combat drug trafficking and guarantee information security.
Participation of the UN delegation and representatives of many countries in the meeting "serves as decisive evidence of the serious intention to strengthen partnership in countering global threats and challenges, in developing coordinated approaches in the sphere of international and regional security." Meanwhile, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said, in a message to the meeting, that the UN was to set a plan to combat terrorism and extremism, indicating that member states will be briefed on this plan next June.
He noted that the plan will basically form an international resolution to be approved by the UN General Assembly, adding that the plan includes several recommendations and measures to be taken on all levels.
He called for unifying efforts as no country can combat terrorism alone.
Moreover, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev said, in a speech in the meeting, that Moscow is prepared to establish a broad anti-terrorist front on the basis of equality and non-interference in domestic affairs of other countries.
"We are convinced that the creation of a broad anti-terrorist front on the basis of norms and principles of the international law and the central coordinating role of the United Nations meets the interests of all participants of our meeting," he added.
He said Russia is ready for such a joint work on the basis of equal cooperation with the respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and compliance with the principle of non-interference in their internal affairs, according to Russia's news agency TASS.
He noted the Chechen people are an integral part of a multi-ethnic Russia and could use the opened possibilities in a right way and educate new generations of citizens on the positions of absolute non-acceptance of extremist ideology hostile to the whole sound international community.
A Kuwaiti delegation, headed by President of National Security Bureau (NSB) Sheikh Thamer Al-Ali Al-Sabah, is participating in the two-day meeting. (end) as.abk.hm
