Parliament delays economic reform discussions

KUWAIT, May 3 (KUNA) -- The government has requested to delay discussions on economic and financial reforms until His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah returns home from an Asian tour, rapporteur of parliament's priority committee Ahmad Lari said.
His Highness the Prime Minister arrived in Dhaka earlier Tuesday in the first leg of an Asian tour that will also take him to Vietnam, South Korea and Japan.
In a statement to the press following a parliament committee meeting, Lari said that the meeting tackled issues set to be discussed at the next parliamentary session slated for May 10th, where Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Dr. Ali Al-Omair and Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning Affairs and Development Hind Al-Sabeeh will be in attendance.
The issues to be discussed include ownership and intellectual rights, in addition to a report by a parliamentary committee on education and cultural affairs, that dictates who would attain citizenship in the year 2016.
Moreover, the forthcoming parliamentary session will also touch on a report by a parliamentary committee on legislative and legal affairs, which seeks to amend a slew of laws in the municipal and healthcare sectors.
Lari also urged a parliamentary committee on financial and economic affairs, to speed up its report on a public tenders law, as it is scheduled to be discussed during the next parliamentary session. (end) sss.nam
