Arab coalition forces attack Al-Qaeda in Yemen

RIYADH, April 24 (KUNA) -- The Saudi-led Coalition in support of legitimacy in Yemen announced launching a joint military operation against Al-Qaeda organization in Yemen.
Saudi and UAE special forces as well as Yemeni troops take part in the joint operation, the Command of the Coalition said in a statement Sunday night. The first hours of the attack resulted in 800 deaths in the ranks of the militant group and forced scores of others to flee, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, citing the statement.
The operation falls in the framework of the international efforts to combat the terrorist organizations and support the legitimate government of Yemen in its drive to recapture cities from Al-Qaeda and destroy the strongholds of this organization.
It also aims to facilitate the delivery of aid supplies to the Yemeni people particularly in the besieged areas, the statement added. (end) yms.gb
