KUWAIT, April 23 (KUNA) -- Two Kuwaiti girls' schools dominated the top places of the Gulf scientific contest for the middle and high school stages, Ibtikar Al-Kuwait Initiative for Research and Innovation (Ibtikar Kuwait) - the organizer of the competition, announced on Saturday.
In the middle stage 'Manaret Al-Khaleej' (Beacon of the Gulf) project of Hawally all female school won the first place while the project of 'Nosob Tathkari Li-Jonodena Al-Bawasel,' (monument of our valiant soldiers) of Fatimah bint Mubarak school, the UAE, came second and 'Qlaat Nizwa' (Nizwa Castle) project of Umm Al-Fadhel principal education school, Oman, came third.
In the secondary stage the project "Expressing Me" by Lubna bint Al-Hareth School, Kuwait, won the first place while the project of "setting the temperature inside a beehive" by Al-Ghalia Bint Nasser principal school, Oman, came second, and a project "to control irrigation of farmland with a smart phone" by Al-Muharraq high school, Bahrain, came third.
Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning and Development Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh attributed the success of Ibtikar Kuwait competition to the kind patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Addressing the award-giving ceremony tonight, the Minister said His Highness the Amir offers limitless support to all talented students, particularly the female ones, and the scientific competitions.
"The Ibtikar Kuwait initiative is in keeping with the vision of His Highness the Amir for turning Kuwait into a global financial and commercial hub, and falls in the framework of the country's plan for human development," she affirmed.
The Minister thanked His Highness the Amir, the sponsor of the competition, for entrusting her to represent him at the closing ceremony.
On her part, Sheikha Fadyah Al-Saad Al-Sabah's Science Competition, chairperson of the initiative, said Ibtikar Kuwait aims to bring about a quantum leap in the country's educational system through turning the system from a traditional one based on dictation into a modern, interactive and innovative system based on hi-tech.
She noted that this competition falls in the framework of the efforts to empower the females, build their scientific capacities, and tap into and polish up their skills.
Meanwhile, Director of Ibtikar Kuwait Dr. Fatimah Al-Hashem extolled His Highness the Amir and Sheikha Fadyah for their support to the activities of the initiative and the efforts to empower women.
She added that the arbitration panel included experts from across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. (end) mrf.gb
