TUNIS, March 31 (KUNA) -- Gunmen stormed the headquarters of a Libyan television station, cutting its transmissions and forcing out its staff, media sources reported on Thursday.
The gunmen stormed the offices of "Al-Nabaa" TV station and gathered the employees in one room. They forced the staff to put out a flash news notifying the pubic that the station was closed, media reported said.
Few hours earlier, the TV station had aired a statement by head of Tripoli authorities Khalifa Ghweil who called chief of the UN-backed unity government Fayez Al-Sarraj to leave the city.
Al-Sarraj, a businessman named prime minister-designate under a UN-brokered power-sharing deal in December, had arrived in Tripoli by sea earlier Wednesday with a naval escort along with several members of his cabinet.
The gunmen took over the TV station to denounce the arrival of al-Sarraj and his ministers.
In December Libyan factions signed a UK-backed deal to form a unity government, chaired by al-Sarraj, to solve the country's pendant crisis. (end)
