DOHA, March 21 (KUNA) -- Deputy Chairman for Editorial Department at Kuwait News agency (KUNA) Sa'ad Al-Ali took part on Monday in the Third World Media Summit which kicked off in Doha, Qatar, titled "The Future of News and News Organizations".
Speaking on sidelines of the event, he stressed on importance of encountering challenges facing the media, besides importance of protecting journalists from risks they encounter during wars and armed conflicts.
This event is a great opportunity to discuss dangers facing media to set them back to their right track and deliver their message in a more professional and free way, he said.
Professional media face three main dangers, namely social networks, digital media and length of news items, he added.
Al-Ali, also the chief editor of the Kuwaiti news network, discussed safety and protection of journalists and people working in the media, especially during wars and conflicts, with representatives of Arab think tanks and media personnel, attending the summit.
Journalism is a scientific subject being taught at universities and institutions and should be taken care of in order to attract the youth, he added.
Media experts are considering now a new genre of media in which robots are used in covering news of armed conflicts, he said.
This summit aims to build a new international media system with a spirit of innovation, besides exchanging cultures and fulfillment of sustainable development, he said.
The launching of the summit took place back in 2009 as an initiative from Xinhua News Agency, in cooperation with other media institutions namely the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Reuters, Kyodo News Agency, Associated Press (AP), Itar-Tass Russian News Agency, Thomson Foundation, Al-Jazeera Media Network, New York Times, besides the summit's permanent excusive committee.
The Third summit hosted by Al-Jazeera Media Network is witnessing participation of 360 media leaders. It is the first time a non-governmental institution in the Middle East and Arab world hosts such a top and broad gathering. (end) nnd.lb
