Situation in Beirut back to calm after pro-Hezbollah protests

BEIRUT, Feb 27 (KUNA) -- The Lebanese military forces helped restore calm to the streets of Beirut late Saturday in the wake of demonstrations staged by supporters of Hezbollah group in protest against a satirical TV program.
Military troops were deployed at the sites of the demonstrations to help the security services maintain the safety of the lives of citizens and public and private property, according to a statement by the Command of the Army.
The military and police forces continue patrolling the streets and spotted no serious security incidents so far, the statement added.
The protests followed the airing by the Arabic MBC TV channel of a program satirizing Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah. (end) ayb.gb
