IAEA Chief to attend seminar on nuclear energy in Kuwait

VIENNA, Feb 14 (KUNA) -- Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukia Amano on Sunday headed to Kuwait to participate in a seminar on nuclear applications for sustained development in GCC countries.
The seminar will be hosted under auspices of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Hamad Al-Sabah, Kuwait Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to International Organization Sadeq Ma'arfi told KUNA.
Ma'arfi added that the seminar would focus on strengthening cooperation between the IAEA and the GCC countries.
The ambassador said the event would also aim at shedding more light on the IAEA work and help member countries utilize science and technology in response to challenges of the 21st century, including critical issues in vital fields like food, agriculture, human health, and environmental resources management.
Ma'arfi added the seminar is hosted at this level for the first time in the region, noting Kuwait's commitment to maintain support for the IAEA and all of its programs. (end) amq.mb
