France condemns N. Korea for launching long-range ballistic missile

PARIS, Feb 7 (KUNA) -- The French presidency has strongly condemned the Democratic Republic of North Korea's (DPRK) launch of a long-range ballistic missile, describing the move as "senseless provocation" of UN Security Council resolutions.
The presidential Elysee Palace called, in a statement, for a "rapid and tough" response from the UN Security Council which will hold an emergency session today.
"The launch is a senseless provocation," the statement said, adding that France calls for a rapid and tough response from the international community at the Security Council meeting in New York later Sunday.
Meanwhile, amid wide international condemnation of North Korea's move, the Security Council agreed to hold an emergency meeting today based on a request made by the United States, Japan and South Korea. (end) mmb.mb
