36 Indians killed as bus falls into river in Gujarat

NEW DELHI, Feb 5 (KUNA) -- The death toll of a government transport bus' plunge into Purna river in Navsari district in state of Gujarat rose to 36, Indian authorities on Friday.
Indian news agency ANI quoted District Collector Remya Mohan saying: "As of now, 36 deaths have been confirmed, 25 are admitted and are undergoing treatment. Maximum possible efforts are being taken by respective departments." Earlier, Navsari superintendent of police MS Bharada had said: "Twenty bodies have been taken out from the river after the bus fell off a bridge into Purna river near Supa village," indicating that there is a possibility to rise the toll as the bus was packed with travelers.
"The bus was going from Navsari to Ukai when the accident took place. We do not know the exact number of people traveling in the bus, but it is said that it was full to capacity," the police officer further said. (end) atk.bs
