Saudi diplomatic mission in Iran returns home

RIYADH, Jan 5 (KUNA) -- Delegation of Saudi diplomatic mission in Tehran returned to the Kingdom on Tuesday headed by Consul General in Mashhad Abdullah Al-Fa'ar and charge d'affaires at the embassy in Tehran Ishaq Al-Arini.
Saudi Arabia has cut its diplomatic ties with Iran and asked Iranian diplomatic mission staff to depart the Kingdom within 48 hours after its embassy and consulate were attacked following the Kingdom's execution of 47 people, mainly Saudi nationals, on terror-related charges.
In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Al-Fa'ar said the mission staff faced some annoyances while leaving the airport in Iran, adding that, after the attacks, they had to resume their work at a house of one of the consulate's staff.
On his part, Al-Arini said that Saudi diplomats asked Iranian officials, several times, to beef up security around the embassy, but they didn't respond to the demand and so protesters attacked the embassy building, burning cars and damaging all equipment.
He lauded the "honorable stance" of UAE's embassy in Tehran for providing support for the embassy and consulate's employees until they left the country. (end) od.hm
