US police arrest 14 in protests affecting air navigation

WASHINGTON, Dec 24 (KUNA) -- Tens of arrests were made by US police departments after protests erupted in different states disrupting roads, malls and airports; organized by a civil group accusing the police of violence against black communities.
Police officers in Minneapolis, Minnesota, arrested five people late Wednesday for various offenses in the largest mall in the United States - the Mall of America- where activist from the civil group "Black Lives Matter" arranged a protest to bring awareness for the many incidents where black men, in many cases appearing to be unarmed, were fatally shot by the police.
Another protest blocked roads to St.Paul airport in the same city then moved inside the airport causing many terminals to shut down and some flights to be delayed in what is considered one of the busiest days for travel within the United States in anticipation of the Christmas holidays.
Nine protesters were arrested in a separate protest organized by the same group aimed to block a highway on way to San Francisco International Airport according to California officials whom also confirmed that there were no delays to travelers to the airport.
"Today, on one of the busiest days of the holiday season, black communities across the United States are taking brave actions to impede the flow of goods and commerce with peaceful protests to call for an immediate overhaul of the justice system," the group said. (end) yt.rk
