UN adopts resolution to curb ISIL funding

WASHINGTON, Dec 17 (KUNA) -- As was widely expected, all 15 countries comprising the wider United Nations Security Council adopted Thursday's landmark resolution to curb funding to ISIL.
The agreement calls for a streamlining of efforts to stem ISIL's ability to generate revenue from oil, gas, antiquities, and its taxation of locals in its territory.
The US Department of Treasury estimates the terror group generates USD 40 million every month from oil refineries under its control.
Thursday's resolution was agreed upon at a historic meeting of 15 finance ministers, which has never been held before at the UN. (end) ys.hb
