Arabs in need for education, culture revolution - ALECSO chief

TUNIS, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- The Arab World is in a dire need for an education and culture revolution to address challenges and crises sweeping it at present, Director General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) Dr. Abdullah Muhareb said.
Addressing the 104th session of the ALECSO Executive Council in Tunisia on Tuesday, Muhareb called for supporting all organizations involved in joint Arab action.
The Arab World is exposed to unprecedentedly numerous crises and risks, he said, referring to what is going on in Syria, Palestine, Libya and Yemen as well as the "criminal waves of terrorism are sweeping through the world." Amid these dangerous challenges, the Arab joint action remains a lifeline that raises hopes in a better future, he said, noting that ALECSO is assuming the heavy responsibility of seeking effective solutions to fulfil its message.
ALECSO has conducted many discussions and reviews of its programs and activities and it going through a big shift in its view and message to the world. These are topped with further reliance on self-financing at a time when contributions by member states are decreasing a year after another.
Meanwhile, the ALECSO chief commended His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's role in support of education and culture issues in the Arab World.
In a press statement on the sidelines of the 104th session of the ALECSO, Muhareb said that His Highness the Amir generously agreed that Kuwait would host an ALECSO donor conference in May 2016, for supporting the educational infrastructure in Somalia.
He referred to the success realized by the First, Second and Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conferences for Syria which Kuwait hosted over three successive years.
In the meantime, Muhareb said that the Palestinian cause would remain at the heart of ALECSO concern. A photo gallery on Jerusalem will be held on the sidelines of the session. (end) ksj.msa
