Israeli violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque tantamount to war crimes - OIC

NEW YORK, Oct 23 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Group at the United Nations on Thursday warned against the persistence of the Israeli provocative actions and aggressions at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Israeli racist policies constitute unprecedented violation of the religious rights of Muslims and the sanctity of the Muslims' third most sacred site, acting head of Kuwait mission to the UN Abdulaziz Saud Al-Jarallah said.
He made the comments in a statement on behalf of the OIC Group during a UN Security Council open debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question. Kuwait is the current presidency of the OIC.
The failure of the international community to put an end to the Israeli violation can only put in jeopardy the chances of peacemaking and stability in the Middle East, fuel extremism and violence, and risk triggering a religious strife in the region, Al-Jarallah stressed.
"The international community, particularly the UN Security Council, should shoulder its responsibility for preventing Israel from undermining the security and stability in the Middle East.
"The inaction by the international community encourages the Jewish state to persist in its crimes and its policy of state terrorism against the armless Palestinian people in the West Bank, including the Arab residents of Jerusalem," he went on.
Al-Jarallah renewed the OIC condemnation of the Israeli attempts to change the historical identity of Jerusalem, the brutal extrajudicial execution of Palestinian youths, and the escalating terrorist attacks by Jewish settlers against the Palestinian people under the protection of the Israeli occupation authorities.
"More than 45 Palestinian civilians, including women and children, have been killed and over 1,800 others wounded since early October in the new wave of atrocities by Jewish extremists and Israeli soldiers, which constitutes crimes of war," Al-Jarallah stated.
He recalled the appeal of the recent OIC ministerial meeting for the UN Security Council to step in immediately and provide international protection for the Palestinian people based on the relevant UNSC resolutions 242, 252, 338, 456,476, 478, 681 and 1073. (end) mao.gb
