US remains "deeply disturbed" by Russia's trial of Ukrainian MP

WASHINGTON, Sept 22 (KUNA) -- The US remains "deeply disturbed" over Russia's decision to move forward with the trial of Nadia Savchenko, a Ukrainian soldier, who is now a member of Ukraine's parliament, it was noted Tuesday.
Savchenko was kidnapped by Russian-backed separatists in June 2014 and taken across the border to Russia and charged with murder.
"We believe the only true justice would be to dismiss the charges immediately, and return Nadia Savchenko to her Ukrainian home, which is a commitment that Russia made when it signed the Minsk agreements," said State Department Spokesperson Mark Toner to reporters. (end) ak.hb
